One of my favorite books is titled "The Four Agreements", have you heard of it? The reason I bring it up is because one of the agreements is to always do your best and I think that is key to creating the best Internet business in 2012. I recently came across a blog post about this and it inspired me to share some of personal thoughts about my journey of building a profitable Internet business.

It reminded me that things don't always go the way I want them too and it's what I do about that that will define my level of success, you know what I mean?

Being entrepreneurs we need to check ourselves from time to time. Here are some great questions to ask yourself and answer honestly:

Do you have current inspiring goals that you are focused on?
Do you have a yearly income goal?
What is your plan for reaching your income goal for your business in 2012?
Have you created a DMO (daily method of operation) that will execute your plan?
What are you learning right now that weren't two months ago?
How will you build on your past success this year?
Can you be more efficient?
What parts of you Internet business would be better if you outsourced?

These are questions that should help you to re-committ and refocus your efforts in 2012. I've always given the advice to start a business that you are truly passionate about and interested in. This really helps when things don't go the way you want in your online business.

If you are looking for the best Internet business to start in 2012 I feel affiliate marketing is still the best business you can start on the Internet in 2012. That doesn't narrow it down a whole lot because there are literally millions of products and services you can use in an affiliate marketing business model. I recommend getting affiliate marketing coaching for 2012 if you are just getting into affiliate marketing. A lot has changed over the past year and you need to be current. Over 90% of the information I read on affiliate marketing and Internet marketing is out dated. Social media has made some big changes to the scene and so have the recent "Panda" updates that google rolled out. Get coaching on how to do affiliate marketing business, it will take years off your learning curve. If you need to be making money in 30 to 90 days, get help.

Obviously if you have a unique skill or talent and you want to start a service based Interent business that is always a good route too. The thing to keep in mind with an Internet service business, like web design, is that in order to get paid you have to do work, you can only get paid when you design a website. This month marks the 7th year I've been building a profit presence on the world wide web. Today I wanted to recap, reveal, and share my future plans for creating a long-term sustainable business online. I'm also going to share a little about an ingenious tool to take your online business to a whole new level. That's pretty simple isn't it. Which is another reason I've been successful on the Internet. I'm not afraid to do something simple over and over. Like creating a few hundred post on a wordpress business website. I went ahead and added to that a willingness to learn something new AND implement it which made for a very profitable online business model. Again, once I learn something new it tends to get simple (maybe boring) but I do it anyway over and over.

You know, it's pretty easy today to just keep learning more and more stuff, which is awesome and I love that about the Internet. BUT, I have yet to find a way to make money for just collecting knowledge upon knowledge.

Why I Switched From Blogger to Wordpress

Sometime in 2007 I switched from a blog spot blog to a wordpress site, this has been the single most important move I've made besides the one I'm making this year. Blogger has a great platform and if you've never built a website before, I recommend building a couple blog spot websites. You'll learn the basics of building a website with current drag and drop methods. You'll learn how to use tracking to improve your website. You'll have a testing ground for SEO theory. And it's a step anyone can do right now to actually start an Internet business in 2012. Creating a wordpress website for a business is just better. Either way you'll wind up there if you want to build the most profitable business model that is sustainable and easy to innovate.

I can do whatever the hell I want with my wordpress sites. And I own them. That is the real short version of why I switched. The idea that the big G can come along and delete a site if they should choose (that happened to me) is a little un-nerving. The functionality of wordpress is far superior and the free add-ons and plug ins for wordpress is amazing. I'd also add that the amount of traffic I get to my wordpress websites is far superior, I keep visitors on my site longer and I make more money. If you need more reasons than that, maybe you Blogger is a better fit for you.

Most Profitable Business Model for Wordpress

Ask 10 different entrepreneurs anything and you'll get 10 different answers. I'm only sharing my experience here, but trust me, I have company. I've gotten lots of advice, that I sought out online, about creating a profitable business on the Internet. Some has worked, some hasn't, some did work and now doesn't. I basically encountered 2 schools of thought:

Build niche sites.
Build Authority sites.

I built both. This website is an example of #1.

That cliff can sometimes occur and if it does you'll be making less money from the website that is sporting it. It can really hurt, but won't hurt nearly as bad if you have several different sites in different niches, some authority and some smaller niche sites. I'm not saying that wordpress can't experience problems, especially with panda and other google tweaks that are sure to come. Don't focus to much on analytics either, it can drive you crazy. I remember times when the down-trends on the image below would literally cause me to loose sleep, know what I mean?

By now most of the know it all's and those who have permanently pasted "easy street" in their online "Tom-Tom" have continued on with their evening of knowledge and surfing for sure, so let's talk about creating a sustainable and profitable business online in 2012. Like I said I love simple and there are pretty much two schools of thought about the future of marketing online to make money.

What will work today and in the future.

What Won't Work Anymore

When I first got into the world or using the Internet to create profits there was a slew of Business Opportunity "Guru's" that dominated the Google AdWords Pay Per Click scene. You know what made them guru's? Using ppc ads on google, that's what. Simply put, they created ads that said, "I make millions so can you" and people clicked, bought into the opportunity, and the guy who created the ad made millions (in some cased literally). I wrote more about online business opportunities at one of my main sites. There FTC has some new compliance laws for the business opportunity business model.

I'm not saying AdWords doesn't work anymore, you already know that. What I'm saying is that when new technologies, products, and companies first hit the market there are opportunities that won't last forever. Those same "Guru's" are now "face book marketing experts" behind the ads we see on FB. Some made some great money and enjoyed a great ROI.

I could go on and on about methods that won't work anymore or at least not for long, but let's do this. Simply put, if you like the idea of having a profitable Internet business, even if it is just a side business, in the future, you need to realize the opportunity you really have and take it seriously. The days of slapping up crap content (I've done my share) are over. Sure you'll still have your strategies for supporting sites and the like, but the days of auto-blogging, which I've never attempted, are over.

What Does Work

Remember I mentioned something about creating an authority site. That still works. Here are some trends I've seen across my profitable wordpress business network:

Quality is becoming more important than quanity.
Social bookmarking is the new back link.
Quality inspires (causes) bookmarking in the right circles.
Strategic link building is more relevant than ever.
Local is key to a real authority profile.

So what does all of this mean? Well first off, if you want to build the most profitable online business in 2012 you need to consider a platform like wordpress. From an SEO, SEM, Social networking, and usability standpoint, there really isn't another option. Secondly, you need to consider how you will create quality content. Content that is meaningful enough for you to share with your friends who have common interests. Social platforms will be flooded with links to your content if can find a successful way to execute this in 2012 and you business will become more profitable.

Like I said quality inspires bookmarking in the right circles. One of the reasons google plus will be a better platform for Internet Marketers is because you can create your own demographic. Not much sense in sharing an article about cooking steak with a vegetarian, right? That's my point. If you want folks to share your content, share it with the right folks.

The Reason This All Seems Overwhelming

To be completely honest, I like the old way better. I got used to it. The first time I created a back link ( and it worked ) I remember thinking, " You have got to be kidding me"....

Building a powerful back link profile was one of the most mundane, tedious, and seemingly meaningless things I've ever done. The return was good and still is. To be honest, it was just as tedious and overwhelming as social media is to me today. I didn't approach back linking with a system, I did it all by hand, personally.

I use a system for the social networking element of Internet marketing and I do that with ease because of wordpress. There are systems for blogger too. I mean I can share any web page with the tool bar I have installed, BUT most people don't have a tool bar and only share something that they really think is cool. Keep that in mind, make it easy for them to share your content and you won't have too.....

Well 2012 is right around the corner and I wanted to share some ideas about making your enterprise the most profitable interenet business it possibly can be this year, because that's what I want to do too. I've been looking over my online business the last few months and assesing what parts of it still inspire and motivate me. I'd like to cull out the parts of my Internet business that I don't enjoy anymore, I plan on doing that by either eliminating them or out sourcing them in 2012.

I've just recently sat in on a profitability training given by THE best online business guru with regards to creating a viable, sustainable and meaningful business. It touched on creating or business that was focused on your core entrepreneurial strengths or tweaking the business you currently have to better be reflective of your core strenght. Most Profitable Business Owners Get Off Track at Some Point

Tactics, methods, and strategies seem to change every year or even month in some cases but when you know your core strengths it doesn't matter how your doing what your doing. I suggest taking some time to reflect on why you started you business in the first place, and if you are in a better place now. After reaching the end of my rope with a commercial construction company I started in my early twenties I started taking goals seriously. That was the business that taught me (experiencially) that more was not a goal. I sat down at my desk one winter and started writing. I wrote what I hated about my business, what I loved about, the sacrifices I resented making, the cool things I was able to do because I owned, the stress and how it had impacted my life, all that I had given up, and all that I had gained at that point in time.

I had a lot of help with a commercial construction company I started when I was 21, but I got most of it 1,300 miles away when I was in Florida over the winters. People in my area were not real excited about sharing with me how to be successful, because I'd be their competition. Online it's been a lot different. For example, HERE is one of the "every thing included" tutorials that helped me a ton online. To be more profitable and to validate/confirm the methods I was correct on and show me what was wrong.

It was a sobering experience and it was the "event" that led me to starting an online business. Somewhere along the way it was clear I had gotten lost and this period of time became a time to redefine what a successful business was to me. It equipped me to seek out the best business opportunities to evaluate in the future and it was the time that I defined profitability for myself.

For me a profitable business had to:

Create the reality that who I was provided for me at every level. I wanted a business that caused me to feel fullfilled, useful,challenged and yet well equiped at the same time. I wanted my business to comprised of multiple project I could work hard to build on the front end yet would continue to earn passively for years to come. I wanted to have complete control over my time and Income. I wanted a business that I could use to create a $10,000 dollar per month income passively. Some of the most exiting ideas about this profitable business were:

I would be available or opportunities that might arise along the way.
I would have enough money I would never have to feel obligated to take advantage of an opportunity that didn't suit me.
I wanted the business to be a business that would scale.
I wanted a business that I could sell.

Over the last 5 years or so I've come to the point were I feel I've found the most profitable business model that can be used on the Internet today. If you've spent any time at all researching online businesses to start you've seen some pretty crazy ads, websites, and promises. So have I. The best online business, or at least the search for it, is the goal of hundreds of thousands of people every month. Over the years I've tried many different online businesses and business models and I've built an business that works for me.

I have a popular website that focuses exclusively on finding the best online business ideas and when you can't find one we share ideas on how to build you own.

Before You Open an Online Business

Before you go out an open your online business it would be worthwhile to establish some personal goals you have for your business. Most profitable business owners aren't completely or solely satisfied with the income there business generates. A high paying job can deliver income, and a good one too. Chances are, if you are looking for the best online business, you want more than just income. Working from home is nice but it wears off over time and it isn't a good fit for everyone. It's important to figure out what you want your business to do for you before you go researching the business opportunities.

Here are some of the things I've learned (mostly in hindsight) I want my online business to do for me. These ideas should help you discern what the best online business to start is for you. Again I learned these things the hard way, through my own experience. I've invested a lot of time and energy online and maybe you can save some time by following the guidelines.

When I first went looking for the best online business to start I was met with those websites and Informational products that promised it was easy to make a lot of money online, it isn't. If your serious about creating a profitable online business then know that you will need to put forth some extreme effort. I don't think it is easier to open an online business, but I do think you can drastically limit your risk.

Originally I started a "Business Opportunity" which was a direct sales business model and had several network marketing elements to it. It was termed a "top tier" business opportunity which basically meant it was one of the most profitable businesses you could start online. The products cost a lot of money and there was a good margin in the products too, which made it a lucrative business model. At the end of the day it was a sales job more than anything and it just wasn't what I was looking for.

By starting that business opportunity I got a lot closer to figuring out what I really wanted in an online business. Here was my online business dream list:

Complete control over my time.
Ability to earn passive income by doing the work once.
Be able to work from anywhere.
Not have to spend time on the phone.
I did not want to sell anything.
I didn't want to have to deal with people.
I wanted a business that became an asset.
I wanted a business I could sell.
I wanted to enjoy what I was doing.

These ideas are not crazy, I didn't even have a huge income goal. I remember wanting to earn $4,000 dollars per month passively. I figured I could cover living expenses on that and other opportunities would come up over time, and they have.

Over time I've built a great business online that has many different areas I could expand on. My online business is completely non-service based but I'm thinking about adding some services. I've also never created my own product, but I think I will. There are many open online business models that let you make your own creative mark on the web.

Essentially every online business that makes money does one of three things or a combination. You make money by selling your own products. You make money selling someone Else's products. Or you make money helping someone else do one of the first two. It's that simple. Find a way to do that well and you have yourself an online business.

Online Business Ideas for 2012-Only Profitable Business Opportunities

2011 is quickly rushing toward the past leaving us with a new year soon and new business ideas to consider for 2012. I wanted to write a new post, as it's been a while, and I wanted to talk about some of the best business opportunities for 2012 online. To be honest I'm not making any huge changes to my online business for 2012, but I am going to do major work and expansion during the winter months.

Regardless of where the "crazy economy" has led you over the past few years, I think starting an online business is a great idea for a lot of people. I won't be sharing any ready made "business in a box opportunities" in this post. I had my own experience on that path and I don't have much to offer in the way of advice or encouragement if your looking for a quick fix and a quick buck. It didn't work that way for me.

I have over time discovered some great resources, many of which are free, that can darastically reduce the time it will take to actually earn some money online. I'll be sharing more about that here on this site and on our other main sites.

I wrote and article earlier this week on what I feel are 5 of the best home based business ideas for 2012 and how they can work together. If you already have an online business in the service sector, you should still read that article. Find out how you can add a few thousand dollars a month to your current business and further help you other business ventures, read that article. One of the important points in that article is using different business ideas as components of a more diversified business model. It mentions how combining passive income elements with make money now income elements will build a more profitable online business for the future.

If your just starting an online business I highly recommend sticking with business opportunites that will at worse break even. In other words only start business opportunities that will be profitable. Try starting a business in 2012 from scratch. Forget about start up capital or mooching unsecured small business loans from your friends and family, and do some research instead. The best online business model I've found is the one I use and I'll share more about that over the next few months.

I'm biased and I admit it. I know there are some profitable opportunities out there, but most just seem to be a glorified version of a job. Some of the best direct sales opportunities are earning six figures plus, but I know a few of these guys and they are working hard ( and long hours ) to earn those incomes. Working hard is part of having success in any new business opportunities online, but if your going to have to work the same hours one year from now to earn the money, then it's a job!

2011 Business Opportunity for Beginners-Low/No Cost Start Up

I get asked all the time what I think the best business opportunity is for a beginner online. I used to have to think about the answer to this question but I don't anymore. A lot of beginners get hung up in the " business opportunity " search with mlm scams and other network marketing opportunitities online. The problem with these business opportunitities is that they only share a small part of the picture.

When you evaluate 99% of the business opportunities for beginners you will be looking at and evaulating the finished product, the results of the top 2% of the earners in that opportunity. Which is fine, the results are awsome and they are real, for about 2% of the people. A lot of work goes into building a marketing machine and most of these opportunities will require a robust marketing machine that generates dozens of leads per day, I'm guessing you may not have a clue how to do that or maybe your generating a few leads a day and struggling with an opportunity right now.

So what do I recommend?

In my experience I'd recommend affiliate marketing and blogging as the best business opportunity for a beginner, for several reasons. Number one, it's the smart place to start and the only real place to start. Go ahead and join an opportunity, pay the $500 to $5,000 dollars for the right to resell the opportunity or product, the rights to your "back office" and what not.

Then see what happens..........

Not much.

Why?

Because in order to make money with any business opportunity that requires you to share an idea or product or service (they all do) you'll need to have a way to connect with people who are interested.

Whay don't most business opportunities start with the correct way to connect with hundreds or thousand of people who are looking for the exact thing your offering? Well, it's not as exciting as all the fluff, that's why.

Can you make a boat load of money online working from the comfort of your own home or local coffee shop? Hell yes, but you have to go about it the right way. It isn's rocket science, but it is work. I love money making ideas especially online business opportunities. I think some of the top business opportunities available right now are online. Some of the best opportunities for beginners are online business opportunities, why?

For starters, online business opportunities are the best for beginners because they are CHEAP to fail at and failing is part of success. It's expensive to fail in the traditional business world and brick and mortar businesses can wipe you out quickly. Which ideas will your family and loved ones support?

Do you wish to sell the business or pass it down to family?

These ideas were helpful to me several years back when I was looking to make a major change. I learned what I wanted based mostly on what I didn't want. For me the top stressors where what I wanted to eliminate. The top things that annoyed me about the business I was in were:

Little control over cashflow (when I got paid)
Rising expenses as business grew (not scalable)
Employees!
Insurance expenses were ridiculous.
No time freedom.

Obviously the business I was in (commercial construction) didn't start out this way for me. But it seemed like in order to move forward and grow the business successfully all these "things" either had to be accepted or eliminated, and eliminating most of them just wasn't an option. So I started looking for a business that would offer these things. You see, I wasn't afraid to work, you probably aren't either and that's why it's important to make sure your working hard for something you believe in, whatever that might be. Starting a business opportunity back in 2006 was what initially gave birth to this blog and this was the first site I'd ever made at that time. That business or starting it, I should say, is what caused be to start this website about online business and making money from home.

Fast forward a few years and you'll find things went in some unexpected directions. I decided to stop my involvement with that home based business opportunity and you can learn more about that at the Home Based Business Ideas blog I also started several years ago.

Turns out the small business network of sites I created back then became a very consistent earner and also became quite a passive income stream. I still do a lot of reading and research on home business and the home based industry, I find it absolutely fascinating.

I've reached many of the goals I set out with years ago, I've also dropped several and they are no longer goals of mine at all.

Starting and building a profitable business opportunity can be confusing for first time entrepreneurs and the acronym W.I.N or "whats important now" is one of those cliche's that can help keep a business start up on track, if fact ifs on of the best business acronyms I've used consistently over time to guide decision in entrepreneurship.

Getting caught up in the planning stages of a small business start up is the outcome and peril of a large percentage of business ideas, so what can we learn from this? How does this tie into starting your business from home or in a way that doesn't require capital in the very beginning?

In my experience there is a time for everything and I find most people get WAY of track in the details. The best way to quantify a business idea being "good" or one of the simple ways is to ask, "Does it make money", this isn't the end all, but a great place to start. My advice: Take an idea and implement it long enough to get an actual market response. Ideas, good or bad, don't really mean "crap" if they don't pass the "acid" test, which is the markets' response. Do people reach in their pocket and pay you money for your creation?

Until this happens you can't streamline, or shouldn't, I mean why would you. This isn't to say that having a plan from the start isn't important, you'll have one naturally, actually most ideas come with a start up plan if you really think about it. The plan almost creates the idea, or they are intertwined to say the least.

What are you thinking right now about the upcoming year as far as your business or career are concerned. A quote I like, but haven't "memorized" goes something like, "Your attitude at the outset of a thing greatly affects the outcome of the thing". Having a good attitude about the business environment in 2010 is a good idea. I'm starting with that and the more I look at my online business and the business opportunities 2010 will bring, I get excited.

I've been nipping away at a financial goal I've set separately for my online business, with is really a web publishing business. What's that?

Basically I blog about small business ideas, and creating an income on the Internet from home. Another aspect that ties in is why I do this. The why of it is more about create a life by design than anything else. I started with a vision 3 years ago and decided that using the Internet to earn money from home was my surest way to realising that vision. Have you made the same decision?

Decisions are powerful and it pays to use the Internet to develop passive income in 2010. As I mentioned I have a separate income goal for my business opportunities and ideas online. I still take on projects off line, but my online business opportunities are a much better match to that vision I talked about.

So what am I doing in 2010?

Well I have a few goals or projects I'm committed to and while I'm always open to new business opportunities in 2010 I've got a few that I'm doing. Its funny how I'll hold a business idea for what seems like eternity. Talking myself into how it would work great, thinking of how much value it would add and how much money I'd make, and such. It's silly, you know?

The marketplace is the proving ground and taking a business idea from you mind to the marketplace is the work of an entrepreneur. It is what it is.

My Best Business Opportunities for 2010

So here are my best business opportunities for 2010. An idea worth mentioning is how some of my ideas, most really, are connected to work I've already done online that has netted results and income. The best tip for a would be entrepreneur is to just get started in business. Profitably will come later. I'd rather be where I'm at right now than when I first got started, mainly because there is more opportunity when you've created momentum.

The first opportunity I want to develop in 2010 is to enlarge my small business industry websites. I have a main site and a few others that talk more specifically on smaller niche topics. I basically want to develop a few more topics to blog or write about. Selling ad space on this network has been a steady profitable business opportunity. Starting a blog is one of the best investments for 2010 in my opinion.

By profitable business opportunity I mean for the money and time spent there is a return that justifies my attention. It wasn't always like that but it is now. Persisting in what already works in my business just makes simple sense so it's number one on my list of top business opportunities online in 2010.

The next business idea I'd like to explore, a new one for me, is creating a business that has a tangible product. I'm not sure if I want an affiliate product or a private labeled product. I'm leaning toward private label and will be looking at the capital outlay of Private labeling a few different products I have in mind.

Another of my goals for my online business is to create a community based website with user generated content. I've dabbled in this a little in 2009, with minimal results but it continues to grab my interest.

And the last business opportunity I like to develop in 2010 is to create a home based business idea using the Internet and a website and sell by years end. My income goal for this project will be 15k. Do you think that is reasonable? By the way if you have any experience in the items I've mentioned or have any business ideas for 2010 please share in the comments! I'd love to be involve in a discussion like that.

2010 will bring its challenges but I'd rather be online developing business concepts than anywhere else. The start up costs are very low and low cost business ideas are much more sustainable in tough times. There are very few expenses in my online business, the biggest being taxes. I like that in a business.

Passive business opportunities used to be a dream to me and I used to think multi-family housing or college rentals when I thought passive. It isn't the way it was 20 years ago, thank God, and you can get in on the action by investing a few hours a week, that's what I did.

2010 is upon us, and it looks to be a year filled with opportunity. Marketing a business opportunity was the motivation for me to start blogging about small business and more specifically home based business ideas. I started looking for a solid business opportunity that's run from a home office around six months ago. I am wanting another income stream for my online business.

Here is the thing though, I want to do it my way. I want to make my own rules, set my own hours, and have some control over what I earn. That isn't asking to much is it?

I've narrowed my search down to two or three possibilities. I'm not letting the cat out of the bag as to what new business I'll add to my mix in 2010, I'm not 100% sure yet anyway.

Upside/Downside

There is an upside to every business idea. Every investment carries risk and most every business carries some sort of risk too. There will always be at least an investment of time, which for many of us is just as valuable, or more, as money.

Huge potential to earn, or upside, is great and having strong upside is important when choosing the best business opportunity to start, but here is the thing....

If your a new entrepreneur, the downside might play a bigger role in your success and certainly in your decision to start a business in the first place. Being a new entrepreneur and choosing a business idea with limited downside is not a bad idea. If you only have a couple sources of income its also a good idea to look at the downside of a business opportunity. If you can't loose, you can loose right? Many top business opportunities don't have a lot of downside, you just have to find them.

Personally I think the Internet offers some of the best opportunities to succeed as an entrepreneur, especially a first time entrepreneur, why?

Because the downside is so insignificant.

I mean you could do something as simple as start a blog, which is free. No downside there really. If you start a blog to earn money and you pick a topic that you have a strong interest in you will likely enjoy blogging about the topic while your money is on the way. ( It can take some time to start earning money by blogging)

2010 will prove to be a "new" year. In saying that I mean there are some wild cards with the economy and all. What will 2010 be like? Ask ten people and get 10 answers, right?

Times are changing and starting a business or even a couple simple businesses in 2010 that have limited downside is probably a smart idea. I've owned a successful traditional small business for just over 8 years that I started from scratch in my early twenties. Learning most of what I needed to learn along the way. I think owning and running, dealing with the challenges and creating a successful small business is about the best education you can get in business. I've employed several employees who carried a bachelors in business and more that really had their eyes opened when they were able to see in my business what had to happen in order to have success.

I was introduced to the home based business industry around 3 years ago when I started an online business opportunity in the personal development field. The differences in a home based business opportunity that was operated online and a traditional business were staggering, yet there were also many similarities.

I'd say the biggest difference in an online business idea and a regular small business is the potential to reach a larger market.

As with any business starting an online business should be done with some sort of a plan. I'd recommend getting clear on what it is you would like your new business idea to create in your life. What type of time will you have available to commit to building an online business? What type of financial commitment are you comfortable with? Will you be taking on any partners? Will your family participate in the business venture? If you are looking to decide what a good business to start would be you need to know what you looking to accomplish in terms of personal lifestyle impact. Once you have that figured out you'll be a big step closer in choosing the best business.

I'm reminded of a blog post I once read authored by Steve Pavalina, a personal development writer and online business entrepreneur. In the post he advised starting several businesses at once. At first I found that to be a bit odd but it really is good advise. Not every business idea you have is necessarily a successful business idea and investing a bunch of time, money and effort into a business idea that doesn't float is a waste. That said I think there are a few drawbacks as well. Draw backs to making money online, at least the ones I'm thinking of, aren't really draw backs in and of themselves, they just seem to get in the way of people actually implementing making money ideas. Starting a home based business is an exciting idea, but starting a business online is becoming just about as successful, or NOT, as a traditional business, why?

I think the answer to this question comes brings us to the draw backs of using the Internet to create a steady income. Here are the top three on my list:

Lack of a clear purpose or feeling purposeful.
Lack of human interaction and community.
Lack of a vision and adding real meaning.

Micheal Gerber in his book "The E-Myth", talks about the entrepreneurial moment and why some many small business start ups fail. According to the book, and based on statics, over 90% of small business start ups fail in the first 5 years.... Why?

People think the best business to start is somehow attached to what they know how to do. The best job to start is based on what you know how to do. The best degree to get is based on what you want to be. Maybe the best business to start should be based on what you want to be. I see starting a business to be a lot like starting an educational program.

Business is constant learning, there are requirements, certain things you have to do well on. You need to study particular parts of you business individually and be able to see how the interconnectedness of the parts create a synergy that makes success possible, right? A strong business plan starts with you the entrepreneur. What effect does the business going here or there have on you, your dreams, aspirations, and objectives in life? Business planning that is approached from a perspective of need is silly. Creating a Business plan so a bank will give you money? Its like intelligent begging. What about a business plan that doesn't need the banks money? Could a great business plan be contingent on an idea that seeds itself? Could the core business philosophy create movement in the business. A business that is underway produces data, observables, trends, right?

When I first started my online business I realized that the key to earning a consistent income was to generate leads. I asked some questions and determined the different ways a person could market or advertise to generate leads.

One thing that I did not do was to set up a lead management or marketing System that would not only capture, store, and track my prospects or leads, but also manage them when I contacted them on the phone.

What does a lead management service do? Well, when you have a person request a call back, either from a website or a 1-800 number, where do they go. By saying they, I mean there info? Well with a lead management system they go to what is called a back office or control panel.

Some lead management systems have auto responders built right in with emails that can be pre-loaded. You can have them written for you or write them yourself. When I contact a lead there is usually one of a dozen possible outcomes that occur. Based on these outcomes, I simply click a box and everything is taken care of for me.

Home business marketing has many variances depending on the business, the product, or the service. The marketing system can be built around your particular business. I remember having pads of paper around, trying to remember who I needed to follow up with, who wanted to get started and who never wanted to talk with me again. It was frustrating.

You can do yourself a favor and get a good lead management system, it will save you a ton of time. You can google "lead management system" and you will likely find an array of different systems. I use a great system, it cost 30 buck a month and comes with an auto responder and a great management system. Remember an auto responder is not enough.

I wanted to update this post about businesses you can start with under 5k in start up capital as it's recieved a lot of traffic over the past few months. There are basically 3 or 4 different business models you can have some success with and invest less that 5k in working capital up front. Maybe one of them will be your golden egg.

5k Start Up Biz Opps

I've written a lot in the past about the busness opportunity business model and I've used the business opportunity as a part of my online business in the past. I don't currently promote a business opportunity, but many of the best business opportunities are under $5,000 to start up.

One of the things to keep in mind (and why I don't promote a biz opp) is that most business opportunities require you to recruit new members. There is a good share of income derived from promoting the actual opportunity. There are usually products involved too, but in my experience the focus doesn't lie on the products.

Mothers having to choose to go back to work full time is hard enough I'm sure, I'm not a mom, but I've seen the look in a new mothers eye when you ask about the child that had to go to day care at 6 am.
